Mibau Stema Group

We're putting energy-efficient vessels in the fast lane

Our products are heavy by nature. Transporting stone, aggregates, and gravel is energy-intensive and requires sufficient space for high-volume loads. For these reasons, shipping has been the go-to solution for years. Compared to other transportation options, ocean shipping is recognized as one of the most energy-efficient modes of transport. (Cf. Moving mountains, even at sea

Thanks to our advanced logistics network, we can deliver almost all our products using energy-efficient vessels. All our vessels are equipped with the very latest technology for a high degree of efficiency. This gives our customers the benefit of choosing more environmentally friendly and lower-emission logistics compared to most other modes of transport. Our fleet of ships complies with and meets the extensive requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). We maintain and modernize our ships regularly, and all our seagoing vessels meet the most demanding requirements regarding air pollutants and ballast water treatment. We use scrubbers and ballast water treatment systems to reduce sulphur emissions to protect ecosystems.

Innovation on the water

Our ships all feature cutting-edge innovations to make them the most energy-efficient vessels possible. For example, they can discharge 40,000 tons in just seven hours. We also have the world's most advanced fleet of self-dischargers for the effective transport of low-carbon aggregates. We are committed to taking energy-efficient vessel transportation even further and complying with EEXI and CII requirements to reduce our carbon footprint even more. These include:

Reducing fuel consumption by:

  • Increasing the average load volume through fleet renewal and expansion
  • Modifications of the main engines of the older vessels
  • Use of optimized propellers
  • Antifouling painting of the ship's hull
  • Increase of both the unloading capacity (belt speed) and the loading speed
  • More efficient control of the entire fleet through specially developed software
  • Slow steaming when required
  • Modified bulbous bow
  • Use of costa bulbs and EnergoProFin

Reduction of other resource consumption, e.g. by:

  • Avoidance of plastic bottles on board (previously > 100,000 per year)
  • Avoidance of packaging material using deposit boxes for food & beverage deliveries (previously always in cartons and shrink-wrapped)

All our trucks must comply with the EURO 6 standard.
